Sunday, Jany. 1st 1826. Miserable, wet dirty day.
Went out for a short time, & called on Mrs Jilbert, with
whom I sat an hour. In the Evening, resumed Suetonius
and by 10 oC. in the evening completed the whole of the
text, V.V. L.L. and Delphin notes. Deo Gratias!
There now only remain the Variorum notes, the
correction of which will give me but little trouble.
I am quite sick of it, but altho’ it has occupied me
so long, yet in reality I have not worked at it above
4 months. My progress lately shews me I could have
finished it eight months ago. — I now shall turn
my thoughts to Mr Whyte, whom I have very much, but
unavoidably, neglected, & copy for him the analysis
&c. of ^ the Plays of Hroswitha. – What can I think of besides,
except thee, dear M. who art always present to me!
