9 April

Sunday 9th. Rose at eight oC. & at ½ past, ####having equipped

myself in my Cap & Gown (which I procured yesterday — for £5.0.0)

I went with the rest of the #######Undergraduates to Chapel. After this

Dr Macbride went with me to the ^Vice-Principal & Tutors ^ (Mr. James) & introduced me

to him. I am to call on him at ½ past 4. to be introduced

to some of the gentlemen, as I am to dine in Hall – and

tomorrow at two oC. I am to call again, for the purpose

of determining what lectures I am to attend &c –

I breakfasted in my own Rooms which I shall always do –

& afterwards took a walk round the Parks. It was a

lovely day, but I had no companions, & was rather melancholy.

Returned to my Rooms at eleven oC. & wrote all the morn’g.

At ½ past 4 oC. dined in Hall, & was introduced by ## the Vice

to several gentlemen. I do not at all like the mode of dining.

It is a mere Hog-sty! Walked in the Ev’g to Joe Pullen’s

Tree, & once more saw the Sun set from the spot I so often

sat on last summer. Went to bed early.
