Monday 18th. At the Hs. from 12. till 3. Very ill,
& scarcely able to hold up my head. Drank tea with
them in the Ev’g. but was so sick, that I was obliged
to lay on the sopha, & almost fainted. I know not
how this will terminate, but I am miserable – yet
dear M. is so kind – she never was so kind! Not
withstanding I look so wretched,- & my remarking to
her my apprehension she would not endure so
woe-begone
a set of features, she kissed my lips of her own accord, and
said “She was only too proud of me.” Dearest M! If I
ever forget thee, even in my mirth!
[Never! Never! I love
her still. July 1870.
Oh God! how deeply! FM.]
