Saturday ##July. 1st. At nine oC. started from Oxford by one of the Star
Coaches, which I preferred, on account of its taking me to
the Oxford ^Street Hotel. It was a very warm day, & the roads very dusty
added to which, the Coach was unusually loaded, so that I did
not alight at the Boar & Castle till near five oC. My first
object was to proceed to No 106. Gt. Russell St. & secure a Room
for my things, but as I intended to go to Fulham, I left word
I shd. not sleep there till Monday night. The Rooms I
had intended to take are at present occupied by a Lady,
who leaves them on Wedny next, so that I must sleep at
present wherever ## Mrs McLallan chooses to put me.
After getting my trunks safely deposited, I went to my brother‘s
lodgings, but found he was out, & did not intend to return till
Monday. On the chance therefore of finding my Uncle #at
Fulham I placed myself on a Coach, & was lucky enough
to find him & Henry together in the garden at Colehill.
### It appears, that Lewis has been elected to the
office of M.C. at Tunbridge Wells, & came up to town the other
day for the purpose of proceedg thither. I wish to God he
could get something more reputable, for this damnable
MC. causes me many mortifications.
