15 February

Wednesday 15th. At Musm. & contd Domit. A. 8. On my return ^I found a

letter from Mr. Roscoe, in which he informs me he had written to Mr Coke,

who was ready to receive me, whenever I chose to come. It is therefore

fixed, that I start for Holkham the 1st. or 2d. of March. Benè. Mr

R. is to send me the ^MS. Catalogue ^prepared by him a few days previous, ## and is to meet

me at Mr Coke‘s, if his health should permit. I walked to an old

bookshop in Old Street, behind the Charter House, a place I was never

in before, — where I found a number of good books, & very cheap. I

laid out 16s.0 sh. & bought a good copy of Cellarii Geographia a Bunone;

Vaillant, Numismata Selectiora; Jones Greek Grammar; Grey’s Memoria

Technica; – ^and a scarce work of “Angeli Caninii Anglarensis ΕΛΛHNIΣMOΣ”,

4to, Par. 1555; which, it is odd enough, once belonged to the same person

as my Sophocles (Edit. Steph.) for it bears the same cypher, in this form:

Is this Cæsar Scaliger? There were also in the lot two scarce Hebrew

tracts; Maimonides de Siclis, &c.

In the Ev’g met A. G. — who promised to come to me on Sunday. She leaves

Mrs T. in a month, & will then, with her sister, open a house on her own account####

in the millinery & dressmaking line. Bona fortuna! — Sophocles till 12 oC.

    The cipher appears to be that of Narcissus Luttrell (1657-1732). See: https://bookowners.online/Narcissus_Luttrell_1657-1732
