15 September

Friday 15th. Rose at eight. It was a lovely day, & my

head free from pain. The idea of going to see Dear M.

gave me new spirits, & I put a few things in my carpet

bag, & proceeded to the Coach Office in Piccadilly. We

started soon after. The road we travelled was quite

new to me; through Crawley, Lewes &c. and although

the distance is much greater, yet the scenery is

so

very pretty, that it relieves in great measure the

fatigue of the journey. I got to Brighton by 6 oC. and

went directly to the York Hotel, where having secured

an Apartment, I dressed myself, & went to the Haytons.

Dear M. received me with open arms, as usual, & I spent

& very happy evening.
