22 July

Saturday 22d. At Musm. from ½ past 9 till 4. Heard that

Wm. Conybeare called on me yesterday at the Musm. whilst I was

up stairs, & by the stupidity of the Messengers was told I was not

there. I should like to have seen him, as I wish to speak

about the Cædmon, & his brother’s posthumous work.– At 4 oC.

I thought I would take another walk to Lambeth, to see if

Dr D’Oyly was returned: which I did: but was told he would

not be back till Tuesday next. Then returned home & wrote

a third letter to Bliss, but was too late for the post. This again

is unfortunate! I must depend solely on the impression

former applications may have made on the A’bp. Rained

hard in the Evg. & I remained till ten oC. in the Reading

Rooms of the Western Institution. They tell me, they intend

to circulate their library in about a week.
