Thursday, 23d. At Musm. Began Harl. 1704. A Mr ^Nichs. Harris Nicholas,

F. S. A. has lately been very civil to me at the Musm. He is about

to edit the Roll of Carlaverok, – which has already been printed, but

imperfectly in the Antiqn Repertory, & by #####Rowe Mores The ###original is

in Calig. A. 18. #### written at the period. There is a recent transcript

in the Herald’s College. I was of some ##use to Mr. N. in reading the MS.

for him, & extracting for him a passage #from the Lanercost Chronicle. He asked

me to accompany him to the Antiqn. Society ####in the evening – which I agreed to ##

Mr P. came to Musm. & we went on ^with our collation, ##&c. – At 7oC. weI

went with Mr Nicolas to ### Somerset House, to attend the

^meeting of the Antiqn. Society. Mr Hallam was in the chair, & a great many

mem###bers present. A paper was read by the Secretary (Ellis) ###written

by Mr. Nicholas, on a MS. Diary of Edw. I. Journey into Scotland,

Ao. 1294, &c. The Royal Society met immediately afterwards,-

Sir H. Davy in the chair, – which I attended, – & heard several papers

read on Philosophical Subjects. Five or 6 ######candidates were ballotted

for, and admitted, – amongst them, Dr. Alexander Nicol of Oxford.
