Tuesday 25th. At Musm. from ½ past 9 till 4. Mr Petrie came to
Musm. & I told him what I had done, but whether from principle
or some other feeling, he did not offer to assist me. I saw
also in the hands of Mr Price the proofsheets of poor
Conybeare’s work, edited with additions by his brother: and
shortly after I met Wm. Conybeare himself, with whom
I had a long conversation. It appears Price & he have
agreed to publish the entire body of Saxon poetry, and
will successively produce Cædmon, Beowulf, the
pieces in the Exeter MS. & Red Book of Derby &c.
Mr C. will remain in town about a week, & promised
to see me again before he goes away. At the Royal Institn.
in the Evening.
