Wednesday 26th. At Musm. from ½ past 9 till 4. Harris
Nicholas vexed me extremely today, by sending me a
proof of a letter written by him to the Gents. Mag. con-
taining some remarks on Palgrave’s Article in
the last Quarterly. In this, he has take occasion to
quote me in a manner I dislike extremely, for “praise
undeserved is satire in disguise”, and at all
events I should shun praise from Mr H. N. for
more reasons than one. I begged him to see the
publisher Nichols, & desire my name might be
taken out, but to my vexation I heard the impression
was already worked off. ##################

[^Wednesday, 26th On my return
from the Musm. ^I found another letter from Dr Bliss
on my table, in which he tells me he has written in
my behalf (with the sanction of the Dean of Christ Ch.)
to Lloyd, the late Chaplain of the Abp. He also advices
me to write to Todd, Vaux, & the Lord Chancellor.
I immediately executed a part of his wishes by writing
& leaving myself a letter ##at the of Earl of Eldon’s, & also
addressed a letter to Vaux, but not knowing his address
could not send it to day.]
