##### ^Friday 26th. in the afternn. went to the Herald’s College,
& called on Mr ^Charles Geo. Young, the Registrar, to give him a letter
from Bliss. He was extremely civil to me, and we
talked over a good many people, among the rest
Petrie, Bayley of the Tower, Harris Nicholas, and other
worthies,- but I shall not write ^down the conversation. He
offered to shew me anything the lib.y of MSS. contained,
& I promised to come on Monday, & examine them.
At ½ past ten in the Ev~g. dressed myself & went with
Henry to a party at Col. Delap’s ^in Harley St. It was a very
gay ball, & a pleasant one. I danced with five of
the finest women in the room, & was very much pleased.
I forgot to mention, that the Abp. himself came to
the Musm. today, & had a conference with Baber+.
What the result is I know not, but it cannot be un=
favourable to me I shd. think, since Baber is my friend.
Henry told me he had seen a paragraph in the Times
inserted
by the Editor, who is a relation of Walther of the Musm* recommending
the Abp. to choose the next person to Bean, & inveighing against
the interest made by & preference given to University Men.
Whether this alludes to me or not, I am hardly prepared to
say, but I think the paragaph will do Mr W. no good, but
rather harm, in case it shd meet the eyes of the Abp.
+ a mistake. It was Planta.
* This is a mistake. He is no relation, & the paragraph
was inserted without the knowledge of Mr Walther
who instantly waited on the ab~p & disavowed it.
