Sunday 27th. All the morn~g. employed on the ^transcript of the Holkham catalogue.
Received, very unexpectedly, a letter from Mr Henry Slight, Secrety.
to the Portsmoth. Literary & Philosophical Society, forwardg to me,
in the name of the Society, the drawing of a coat of arms sculptured
on a slab of marble lately dug up beneath the pavement of St.
Thomas’s St. The drawing is made by Lane, but owing, I suppose,
to the mutilated state of the #####marble, is very imperfectly represented.
I sent a sketch of it, & letter to David Powell,– knowing him
to be extremely conversant in foreign Heraldry. At 4 oC. walked
down to Fulham.
