Wednesday 28th. Called again on Dr. Jones ^of Exeter & we spent an hour
in the Muniment Room, collating an old copy of the ^College Statutes.
It was resolved, the remg. papers sh.d ## rest in statu quo,
until I returned to Oxford. Then went to Bodln. & in the course
of the day made a curious ######discovery, viz. that the ## MSS.
described by Montfaucon in his Diarium Italicum. c. 28. as belong.~g
to the library of ^Jul. Justiniani at Venice (which list was copied,
also into Vol. 1. of. ^the Bibl. Biblioth. ^MSS. vol. I ##) are ## part of the
MSS.
now actually in the possession of Mr Coke! This I am enabled
to ascertain beyond a doubt, not only from the titles of the MSS,
their age & preservation, but from the dates preserved in
them; & it is not a little curious, that both Montfaucon
& Roscoe sh.d have been deceived by a ####note inserted in
a MS. of Theophylact, stating it to have been written in
1229, whereas by the actual computation of the date
given in Greek numerals,

, we know it to have
been completed in 1224: as follows:
A. M. 6732
5508
A.C. 1224
D.r Jones had asked me in the morning to join a large
party at dinner at theExeter College, so at six oC. having
put myself in “due array”, I proceeded to the spot,
where I found a very numerous party. We dined in
the large Hall, & sat down in number between 50 & 60,
& after the desert & wine, adjour#ned to the garden,
where we had syllabub, junket & coffee. Altogether, it
was a fête given in good style, & I was rather flattered
by being invited. #######
