Tuesday 6th. Dies Nefastus. At the Musm. from 10. till 4. Finished
the Charters from Harl. 596. ^and began extracts from MS. Cott. Tib. A. XX. Mr Baber sent for me, & shewed
me a paper drawn up for the purpose of being copied & signed
by the gentlemen who are to undertake the Class Catalogue.
There are to be ####four (beside Mr Horne ^who undertakes Theology) ######namely, Jurisprudence,
by Mr ^Tidd Pratt, Barrister; Natural Philosophy, by Mr. ^Stephen Lee*, ^medicine by Dr. Badham; & History by myself.
The paper is as follows; which I copied, signed and
delivered to Mr B. who is to give it to the Trustees
on
Saturday next, when it will be settled.
“Mr. Frederic Madden proposes to arrange the Titles of
Books under the Class of History; to compare the transcribed
Titles with their respective Books, & make such alterations
in the same, as may be found requisite.
Mr. Frederic Madden also engages to devote to this em=
ployment six ##hours per diem for six days in ###each week throughout
the year, excepting the weeks at Christmas, Easter & Whitsuntide,
& the thirty days allowed to the Officers of the Musm. for
Vacation; and is at liberty to enter upon this employment
immediately.
To be paid at the rate of three hundred and sixty Pounds
per Annum (as Mr Horne is) more or less, in proportion
to the time given in classing the titles.
