Sunday 21st. Lovely day. All the morn~g writing.
At one oC. went by a Paddington coach to Westmoreland
Green, to call on Mr & Lady Anne Coke, who, as I un=
derstood, when at Holkham, always, when in town, resided
at
her Aunt’s the Dowager Lady De Clifford‘s. When I got to Westmore=
land Green (which is now called Westbourne Green) I found that Lady
De Clifford‘s house was not here, but about a quarter of a mile
further, on Paddington Green, & very near the Church. After some
difficulty, I succeeded in finding the house, & on enquiring
for Mr Coke & Lady Anne, was ushered up stairs. They received
me with their usual kindness, & I remained nearly an
hour, until the arrival of more visitors obliged me to make
my bow. Mr C. repeated his invitation ^to Holkham for ### October; &
hoped Mr Roscoe would then be able to meet me there.
I walked across Kensington Gardens by K. Geo. the 2.ds Mall,
& then, pursuing my course along the High road, turned
down by the Northend road, & so on to Fulham, where I found
my Uncle^ Sir George Madden, in his grounds, & suffering from a severe cough.
The Evening passed as usual.
