Thursday 10th. At Musm. from 10. till 4 oC. Ellis pointed out
to me two very curious Vols. on the Museum, superbly printed
on Vellum, fol. Par. 1519. They are two copies ofby Thomas Linacre’s
“Methodus Medendi”, transld. from Galen. One of these copies has
a printed dedication to Henry 8.th, & an illumd. title-page,
with his arms. But the other copy (which was presented to
the Cardinal Wolsey) has not only this printed dedication, &
title-page (in which is the Card.ls Hat. but no Arms) but
immediately before the Dedication to the King, is inserted.
in MS. by the author himself, a dedication to Wolsey.
There never was, a better example of the Ego et Rex meus,
& the fact is extremely curious, as well as the MS. address
which deserves to be published. – The A’bp. has not yet
signified his pleasure, & perhaps waits till the return of
Mr Planta, who is at present out of town. For my part,
I am
tired of ######this suspense – & therefore havg. kept my letters to dear
M. & Miss H. above a month, in the hope of telling them
better news, I at last sent them off to Brighton.
