17 April

Monday 17th. Chapel. Sent to town the transcript of the

Laws, & a letter to Mr Petrie. At eleven oC., lecture.

The remainder of the day in Bodln., copying the Brutus

abbrevus. from 1066. to 1264. I was in the schools for half

an hour, but nothing of interest to detain me there.

We still have the most lovely weather. I long for Whitsun

week to arrive, that I may return to town. Dear M! –

I had a conversation yesterday with my aunt on the subject

(opened by herself) in which I frankly avowed my intention

of marrying MH. She concurred with me,- & said she

thought I was quite right to choose for myself,- & there

could be no sort of objection to it. This has made me

happy, for from my aunt‘s ambition & love of money, I

expected the most determined opposition. I shall write

to M. & tell her. Bought #two sets of maps to Herodotus &

Thucydides. ln ##the evening walked, (as I usually do) to Joe Pullen’s

Tree. After tea, Livy & Sophocles. –
