19 September

Tuesday 19th. Very ill still – & scarcely able to walk to the

H’s. – I drank tea with them in the Ev~g. & as I had resolved,

if better, to return to town tomorrow, I wrote to Henry to tell

him so.– I felt ready to expire, & Mrs Doolan & the whole party

thought me so seriously indisposed, that they begged me

to go home to Portsmo. instead of returning to town. At first

I absolutely refused, but feeling within myself how much

better it would be for me (for even at that time, I had

no idea of the dangerous attack #####which ensued), & being intreated

by her I love best in the world, I yielded to their advice,

& after taking leave of them, — I took a place on the Portsmouth

coach ^for tomorrow morning. ##################
