Wednesday 2^d. At Mus^m. f’m ½ past 9. till 4. Received a letter

from my Aunt _^^{Mrs. Powell.} In the Ev’g at Institutⁿ in Leicest. Sq. & read

a curious notice in the Asiatic Journal, of some Egyptian

rolls of papyrus lately purchased by the K. of France, and

also of a work written by a German (Seyffarth) against Cham-

pollier, in which he wishes to prove, the Hieroglyphic or Sacred

character, was derived from the Enchorial, & the latter from

the Phoenician. He is clearly wrong. ### A directly contrary

process took place, as amply proved by Champollier.
