Wednesday 24th. Received a parcel from Bliss, & to my great
pleasure, found he had obtained & forwarded to me testimonials
from Dr. Jones, the Rector of Exeter; from Dr Macbride, the Principal,
& James, the Vice Princl. of our Hall; all of which, together
with a letter from myself, I sent off in the course of the day
to ^Dr. D’Oyly, to lay before the Abp. ^(I have annexed copies of each of them.) Bliss also tells me the Vice
Chancr. of Oxford ^(Dr. Jenkins) has very kindly offered to speak to the
Bp. of London for me, with whom he dines on Friday. Besides
this, Dr Bandinel wrote yesterday to D’Oyly ^[to the Abp. See p. 441.] on my behalf,
& Bliss himself wrote a very strong letter to Ld Spencer,
& will write another to Vaux, the other of the Abp‘s chaplains.
Bliss also sent me up the Proofsheet of Blore (Thos. Arundel).
which I took to the Musm. & there collated the letters with
the Origls. in Nero B.I. It rained hard the whole of the
Evening.
