4 August

Friday 4th. At Musm. from ½ past 9. till 5 oC. Part of this time

I was employed in the MS. room, in takg ^extracts for an analysis of the

Comedy of Babio for Mr Whyte, & afterwards for an hour & ½

in Mr.

Forshall‘s room, trying the experiment of gall# ^[by Mr. Petrie’s wish] on the ^Cott. MS#

^Tib. A. XV. containing Alcuin’s letters. It succeeds very badly, in fact

I think the galls make #####the writing more illegible. We are to try again tomorrow.

I wrote to Bliss yesterday respecting my book-box, which

has not yet arrived. Nothing has been decided respectg

the situation at the Museum. I fear I have no chance.

I wish the Ab’p. would decide, for I want to send a

letter to dear M. In the Green Park with Henry till

9 oC. & then at Royal Institn. where I read the last

No. of Gents Mag. and the Supplement.
